Renewable Energy Could Provide 77% Of The World’s Power, Study Finds

A study from the UN has found that renewable energy could meet most of the world’s energy needs if governmental policies encourage growth in the sector.
The findings from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shows that 77% of the world’s predicted future energy output can be met from renewable sources. This is based on an estimate of 407 exajoules of energy being consumed each year, which is three times higher than the current usage of both the USA and Europe.
The IPCC highlights solar energy as one of the main areas of development in renewable energy, with energy generated from photovoltaic solar panels growing by 50% in 2009 despite global economic worries.
The use of renewable energy on this scale can help the fight against climate change, reduce greenhouse gases and help keep the Earth’s temperature from rising considerably.
Homeowners can do their bit for the environment, and reduce their heating costs, by installing solar panels on their home. A number of renewable heat incentives are available from the government to help pay for the cost of installing the panels and means that all households can benefit from the savings of renewable energy, as well as knowing that they are doing all they can to help reduce their carbon footprint.
